Recently my family had subscribe to ACN Digital phone service, which is a internet phone service VoIP. The phone is connected to your internet modem. Some other companies offering this service that you might be familiar with is Vonage.
With this phone plan it included a video phone so that you could video conference to other acn digitial subscribers all over the world. And Unlimited long distance for only $29.99/ Month to canada, usa, or puerto rico + $6.95 System access fee. This is based on a two year term.
There are some pros to this cheaper phone service like unlimited chatting to the specified areas, voice mail, caller id, call forwarding are all included for one low price. Your existing number can be used and transferred to ACN with out charge and installation was free.
The cons, when the internet is down or power is out you don't have any phone service. The voice quality and reliability is horrible.
I totally have been dissappointed with the service. I have experinced really poor voice quality, Unable to place or recieve phone calls. When the internet is down, I am out of a phone for a long time. I need to call the customer service line with my cell phone cause the phone isn't working properly, wasting my time and cell phone airtime. Now for me to cancel, I have to pay a $200 termination fee since i am totally dissatified with the service.
I would definately stick with bell for regular phone service. Rogers is a step better than Voice IP phones but not as good as the tradition telephone lines!
